What kind of traveller are you?
Did you ever ask yourself why you like travelling? In the modern world, travelling is taken almost for granted. In many Western cultures, in the 19-25 age group, it's normal to travel alone for some time or to take a so-called sabbatical year. Others, however, prefer to travel in company and for shorter periods. The goal is always to detach themselves from regular everyday life, have fun and, in some way, reinvent themselves. Whatever your destination and way of travelling are, there is definitely a category you can mirror yourself between those below.
Whichever one of these travellers you are, we have advice to make your vacation perfect.
The backpacker

This type of traveller sees their holidays, or rather, travels, as a continuous adventure. The budget is kept to a minimum; they prefer hostels instead of more or less expensive hotels, mostly in dorms of 6-10 people. The hardcore ones turn to Couchsurfing and always look for discounts to spend less as their stays usually last for several months. At the same time, they want to immerse themselves 100% in the local culture; they love street food and are more likely to be found on the streets of Bangkok or Cartagena than in European capitals.
Our tips for you:
- Talk to other travellers while staying in a hostel! You'll probably receive excellent tips for avoiding tourist traps, meet new people, and you're likely going to get invited to a party you would have never heard of before.
- Use a portal like Omio to organise your travel is the perfect solution. Backpackers’ plans constantly change, so this way you can stay organized and flexible. You can book planes, trains, ferries and buses, and if you do so via the Vivid app, you will also benefit from 5% cashback, which doesn't hurt.
The party-goer

Ibiza, Mykonos, Ios, Pag, and Palma de Mallorca are European partygoers' favourite destinations. For those who choose to head for slightly more exotic destinations, we can find them in Cancùn in Mexico or Koh Pangan in Thailand. They are usually between 18 and 32 years old, and move in quite large groups. Their goals are: to drink as much as possible while spending less and partying every day until the early morning hours. They want to let loose and enjoy the summer to the fullest, meet new people, experience one-night stands, and maybe even enjoy a beach or two, if there’s time left over.
Our tips for you:
- Please remember: safety first! Grab a cab when you don't feel like riding back to your hotel with the cheap scooter you rented and always keep an eye on your friends.
- Despite the 3x2 shots offers, revellers aim for popular destinations, so finding lower budget accommodation to spend more on the nightlife is essential. Booking.com offers accommodation for any kind of budget, and if you book through the Vivid app, you can enjoy 10% cashback. Just check the Vivid Services section of the app.
The outdoor fan
This type of traveller needs a nice adrenalin rush every time they go on holiday, or at least to be out in nature. They love camping, outings to remote places, and hiking in the forest. Some engage in more or less extreme sporting activities such as bungee jumping and rock climbing. If you look for them, you'll probably find them hiking in the Alps, surfing in Portugal, or crossing the jungles of South East Asia. Regardless of the activities chosen, we can be sure that this traveller spends most of his time outside, breathing the fresh air.
Our tips for you:
- Keep in mind to always wear appropriate clothing and be weather wise according to whatever activities you're choosing. You don't want to be hiking in the Dolomites and feeling way too cold because it was 10 degrees warmer in the morning.
- Find a companion, especially if you're not a super expert. Emergencies happen, and even if you decide to be alone, give a copy of your itinerary to someone you can trust.
The all-inclusive traveller

Real life is stressful, and when the all-inclusive traveller goes on holiday, they don't want to think about anything. It's easy to spot them in the Caribbean, Egypt or the Maldives. Their goal is to book an excellent all-inclusive resort, lie on the beach or by the pool, read a book while sipping a piña colada, and nap. In the evening, small restaurants and group activities provide the entertainment they need. Their mantra is RELAX. Since the trip is already organised from start to finish, the only thing you might miss is your smartphone's internet connection.
Our tips for you:
- We know that you don't really want to plan anything during your holiday. Still, especially if you're staying for a longer period, you might consider booking a resort closer to local areas. These resorts are less expensive, and if you feel like exploring the outskirts, leaving the property for a few meals to dine at local restaurants won't make you feel like "wasting money".
- If you find yourself unable to access the Internet once you land at the Santo Domingo airport, we're sure that having immediate access to your eSIM will come in handy. Airalo is the world's first eSIM shop. By paying with your Vivid card, you can also enjoy 25% cashback on your purchase and have a cocktail at the resort bar at our expenses.
The cultural traveller
This type of traveller only wants to do one thing, enjoy the culture, art and history of the places they visit. It's easy to find them in and around European capitals with their Lonely Planet in their hand. They love Europe, get lost in the museums and narrow streets of quaint old towns, and want to absorb as much of what the old continent offers.
Our tips for you:
- Beware of tourist traps and ask local people for advice on food options and hidden cultural gems in your area. Usually, European cities are full of mediocre restaurants for tourists, and we're sure you want to avoid that.
- No matter how good a Lonely Planet is, every city has some unique places that only locals know. Better ask them for advice. And when talking about this, what could be better than GetYourGuide? It's the perfect way to discover your destinations like a real local and avoid the tourist traps. P.S. If you book a GetYourGuide service using your Vivid app, you will also receive 9% cashback.
The list could go on and on but, in the end, it doesn’t matter what kind of traveller you are. Whether you prefer to do some culinary tourism, or spend the evening dancing with friends or hiking in the Alps, the best thing about holidays is to do something that allows you to step outside of your everyday life, perhaps discovering other cultures and even parts of yourself that you didn't remember or thought you had.
